This Don Giovanni at the Bayerische Staatsoper unites David Hermann’s visionary staging with Vladimir Jurowski’s incisive musical leadership, earning praise for vocal distinction and orchestral brilliance. Hermann reframes the drama through a mythological lens involving Proserpina and Pluto, presenting Don Giovanni as a figure of desire, contradiction, and transformation. Konstantin Krimmel delivers a compelling, vocally radiant title role, matched by Vera-Lotte Boecker’s soaring Donna Anna. Samantha Hankey’s fiery Donna Elvira and Avery Amereau’s warm, witty Zerlina strengthen an acclaimed ensemble. Jurowski’s interpretation combines clarity and dramatic momentum, illuminating Mozart’s shifting moods. The production’s broad appeal was confirmed when over 40,000 listeners gathered for the open-air Oper für alle performance in Munich.
